- Green Electricity
When shopping for a new BMW, you should know that the BMW Group production sites have been sourcing external electric power from renewable energy sources to reduce carbon emissions. For example, the entire production line for the i4 and iX has power sourced by hydroelectricity from Isar and Lech rivers.
- Recycling Waste
In the life cycle and production of BMW models, you will find recycling processes that reuse materials as seen fit. Also, you will find that vehicles at the end of life are considered secondary raw materials rather than waste that requires disposal.
- Battery Recycling
BMW is accepting back all used BMW high-voltage batteries worldwide, even without legal requirements to promote recycling. Also, BMW is working with Duesenfeld in Germany to develop a recycling method that achieves 96% efficiency in recycling graphite and electrolytes from batteries.
- Reducing Carbon Footprint
There are multiple ways that BMW is looking to reduce their carbon footprint during production, and it promises to reach an 80% reduction of CO2 emissions by 2030. Also, you will find that BMW has established over 2,800 vehicle takeback points worldwide across 30 counties, providing environmentally friendly recycling services. In today's production lineup, BMW uses 50% secondary aluminum, 25% secondary steel, and 20% thermoplastics.

- Olive Leaf Extract
With the production of seats and instrument panels for the BMW iX, an olive leaf extract is used to eliminate any residue during production that can harm the environment.
- Recycled Fish Nets
You will surely be impressed with the ultra-luxurious interior of the BMW iX. However, you might be surprised to learn that a high percentage of materials used for floor coverings and floor mats are made from old fishing nets removed from the sea.
- FSC-Certified Wood & Dinamica
BMW has chosen to source wood that is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified on the optional glass and wood controls found on the control panel and centre console of the BMW iX. This certification is a gold standard of sustainable forestry practices, which many rigorous standards to follow. Also, the BMW iX's seats are made of Dinamica, a microfibre material that looks and feels luxurious, but it utilizes 50% recycled polyester in production.
- No Rare Earth Materials & Suitability Sourced Cobalt
With the electric motors of the BMW i4, the BMW Group has managed to eliminate the use of rare earth materials, making it possible not to rely on the limited supply of those materials. In addition, the new BMW battery cells require less than 10% cobalt, and BMW only sources cobalt from suppliers that implement corporate responsibility practices for a sustainable future.
